Adding RGB Attributes
There are often times when a user may wish to extract RGB values from imagery in order to assign a color value to the each LIDAR point. In assigning the RGB attribute, the LIDAR file’s Point Data Record Format(PDRF) needs to change in order to accommodate the additional values.
A TerraScan Project defines the attributes to be stored within the files of the project. Color is one such attribute and is storable in all of the project storage formats. In order to store the values with the points, the color attribute needs to be checked. Once the attribute is set for the project, and the project has been saved, then users have the ability to store the RGB values from imagery.
For more information concerning extracting RGB values using TerraScan and TerraPhoto please see Colorizing LIDAR Points in TerraScan.
Removing RGB Attributes
A bit less common is the requirement to remove RGB values from LIDAR data. In this instance, the same attribute within the Project file is used, except instead of checking the option for enabling color the option is unchecked.
Once the project has been saved, a user can then create a macro that is designed to open a LIDAR file, save the file and then close again. The save on the file is necessary in order to remove the RGB attributes from the file. By unchecking the color option, the PDRF is changed to a version that does not allow RGB values to be stored within the file.
