Reshape Geometry

You can redraw a section of a polyline or polygon feature with the Reshape Geometry command. The tool uses a reshape polyline to delete a section of a feature from where the line first crosses the feature's boundary to the point where you last cross the boundary. The section of the feature you delete is replaced with the sketch you make while reshaping.

Features do not have to be selected to be editable. If your reshape polyline crosses multiple features, the Resolve Feature Selection dialog will appear requiring you to choose a layer to apply the edits to. In the Map Window, hold down Shift while editing to enable panning with the right mouse button and zooming with the left mouse button (or scroll wheel).

Note: While you are reshaping a feature, you can undo each reshape action in sequence. Once you have finished the edit, the Undo will reverse the reshape as a whole.

How to Reshape Geometry

1. To reshape the geometry of a feature, click the Reshape Geometry command on the Feature Edit Tab.

2. Click in the map close to where you want your reshape line to replace a boundary to begin your reshape polyline. You will want to digitize the reshape polyline such that when you cross the feature boundary for the first time, the section you want replaced is to the right of your line.

3. Drag the mouse to cross the feature and digitize the reshape polyline where you want the new feature boundary to be.

Note: You can crisscross a shape boundary multiple times. It is only the first and last crossings that are used in the replacement algorithm.

4. Cross the shape boundary for the last time where you want your newly defined boundary to connect to the existing boundary and double-click to end this line.

5. Repeat for other parts of the feature you wish to edit out, then right click and select 'Finish Edit' when you finished.
