In some cases one may have received the tower locations from the power line company prior to flying the survey. These points may be read into TerraScan and used as a shortcut for generating a Tower String for use as the Active Power Line rather than having to manually collect the string.
The text file must be formatted to have Easting, Northing and Elevation, although the elevation field may be zero.
Configure a user point file format in TerraScan so that this file can be read in and displayed as points. Similar to what one may do for control points.
Once the points have been read into TerraScan one may then use the Draw as line strings command to draws the points as line string element(s) into the design file. The points are connected in the order they appear in the file or in the point list in the TerraScan Main window. The line strings may be separated by a line number or class assigned to the points. The command connects only points of the same line number and class with a single line string.
To write points as line strings into the design file:
- Select Draw as line strings command from the Output pulldown menu to open the Draw as lines strings dialog.
- Select the desired point class(es) and click OK. This draws the line strings into the design file using active symbology settings of MicroStation.
