About the Default Symbol

If a value is not associated with a symbol, then it is assigned the default symbol with a label of "All Other Values". The default symbol may at times need to be turned off or made invisible. When the symbol is not visible, the points that are associated with the symbol are hidden and are not drawn on the screen.

How to Modify the Default Symbol and Label

Default Symbol Visibility

1. Open the Properties dialog.

2. Select the 'Symbology' tab and the 'Point Source' tab within it.

3. Click in the check box for the default symbol. If the box is checked, the default symbol is visible otherwise the symbol is not visible and will hide points on the screen.

Editing the Default Symbol Properties

1. Open the Properties dialog.

2. Select the 'Symbology' tab and the 'Point Source' tab within it.

3. Within the Symbol column, double click on the default symbol. The Symbol Property Page will display.

Editing the Default Label

1. Open the Properties dialog.

2. Select the 'Symbology' tab and the 'Point Source' tab within it.

3. Within the Label column, click twice over the default label. After a slight pause, a text box should appear so that the label can be edited.

4. Input a new label into the text box.

5. Press the "Enter" key on the keyboard or click outside the text box to accept the new label and complete the edit.
