Overview
Some customers may see a message on the TVGO tablet stating that the device is “not Google Play Protect certified.” This article explains why this message appears, what it means for TVGO operation, and what options are available if additional Android apps or internet access are required.
Why This Message Appears
The Android tablet shipped with TVGO systems uses a locked‑down firmware configuration designed specifically for stable operation of the TVGO application. Because of this controlled environment, the tablet is not Google Play Protect certified.
As a result:
- Google Play Store apps may not launch or may close automatically.
- Web browsing and other standard Android apps may be restricted.
- Selecting links within the warning screen may briefly open and then close.
This behavior is expected and intentional.
Does This Affect TVGO Operation?
No.
The Google Play Protect message does not affect TVGO functionality.
The included tablet is intended to:
- Run the TVGO application
- Support flight operations and data capture workflows
All required TVGO features operate normally despite this warning.
Using Additional Android Apps
If your workflow requires:
- Installing other Android applications
- Unrestricted internet browsing
- Google Play Store usage
We recommend using a customer‑supplied Android tablet instead of the TVGO‑provided tablet.
The TVGO app can be installed on supported external Android devices to meet those needs.
Firmware Updates and Google Play Protect Behavior
In some cases, the Google Play Protect warning may appear more frequently than expected depending on tablet firmware.
A tablet firmware update released in March 2025 addressed Google Play Protect behavior on certain units. If you believe your tablet is affected more aggressively than described above, updating the firmware may help.
Note: Firmware updates should only be applied if advised by GeoCue Support.
