Associate Images with Features

One of the features available in True View Evo and LP360, that came from adding image support for the True View 3DIS, is the ability to associate images with existing features in a feature file. Depending on file organization, images can be assigned to specific features and displayed when selected in Feature Analyst. This could potentially be useful for various applications.

Potential Application – Control point photos

One potential application could be assigning photographs of control point locations to collected points. When choosing individual points in Feature Analyst, the photograph(s) of the control point will be displayed. This could help confirm the validity of control points when reviewing LIDAR or orthomosaic datasets.

Workflow to associate images with existing features

All that is necessary to tie a photo to a feature is creating a new attribute, using the Schema Editor, in the feature file named PhotoPath, Cam1Path, Cam2Path or user defined image path attribute name:

In Feature Analyst settings, the user can specify the number of images (up to 4) associated with each feature and what attribute name is associated with these photos. Note: It is highly recommended to leave the default image path attributes (PhotoPath, Cam1Path, and Cam2Path) unchanged and add new attributes if needed:

After creating the new attribute(s), open Feature Analyst and specify the path of the image that you would like associated with the feature. Once the path is designated, the image will be displayed at the bottom of the Feature Analyst dialog, when a feature that has an image path defined is selected. This function can also be used in conjunction with Image Explorer, when processing a True View 3DIS system derived flight. Using: Image Explorer, Feature Analyst, and normal LP360 views (map, 3D, etc.) together, gives the user powerful QC functionality for comparing imagery from True View 3DIS flights with ground truth in-situ data. Using the identify button on the Image Explorer dialog, the user can sync imagery from the flight with the selected checkpoint:
