No Connection Could Be Made Because The Target Machine Actively Refused It

Problem:

On the License Server Info tab of the LP360 License Administrator one sees the error message “No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it”.

Probable Resolution #1:

Is the LP360 License Server machine turned on?

Probable Resolution #2:

Can the client machine communicate with the LP360 license server machine?

Option #2 of the following post walks you through how to change the settings to communicate with the server via IP address instead of by name.

Cannot Connect the Client Machine to the License Server

Probable Resolution #3:

Is the LP360 License Server service running on the server machine?

Option #1 of the following post walks you through how to verify the service.

Cannot Connect the Client Machine to the License Server

Probable Resolution #4:

Is there a firewall in place on either the server or client machine?

Option #3 of the following post walks you through how to configure the firewall.

Cannot Connect the Client Machine to the License Server

Probable Resolution #5:

Does the port number listed in the client’s LP360 License Administrator match the port number on the server machine?

The following post walks you through how to set the port number on the server.

Changing the TCP Port for the LP360 License Server

For the client machine:

  1. Open the LP360 License Administrator using the right-click and “Run as Administrator” option.
  2. Select the License tab.
  3. Select the option to Use License Server and type in the name of the License Server, the Port Number the service is running on and the Desired License Level (this is dependent upon the purchased licenses available).
  4. Select Set License Server.

Probable Resolution #6:

Is the port number in use by another program?

It is possible that another application is bound to the default or chosen ports used for the LP360 License Administrator. Modify the port on all machines using the LP360 License Administrator and then restart the LP360 License Server service.

If you are unsure of which ports are currently in use type ‘netstat -an’ at the command prompt.
