To ensure reliable SLAM performance, keep collection speeds below 6 m/s.
Higher speeds can cause the sensors to lose accurate positioning during acquisition, increasing the risk of processing failures. Processed datasets may also exhibit large alignment errors and missing coverage.
TVGO Neo relies on SLAM to continuously estimate the sensor’s position while building a 3D map. When moving too quickly, there may not be enough overlap between consecutive LiDAR scans, making it harder for SLAM to track the environment accurately.
For this reason, we recommend collecting data at speeds below 6 m/s.
At higher speeds:
- SLAM may lose tracking and sensor positioning.
- Processing may fail due to insufficient alignment between scans.
- If processing completes, the resulting point cloud may contain significant misalignments, distortions, or empty areas.
For the most accurate and complete datasets, keep your collection speed below 6 m/s.
